My mother taught me to read early, which is still the most useful thing anyone has handed me. As a teenager I spent my afternoons in bookstores, and walked out of one with a book about investing in stocks. I never left that direction. Stocks have been good to me since.

In May 2024 the curiosity got expensive. I joined a few syndicates and started writing cheques into private companies — learning the only way that teaches you anything, with real money at risk and some painful mistakes to show for it.
